While it might actually be better (I certainly enjoy it more), it’s hard to drown out the cultish fervor surrounding \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.com\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Heaven+Or+Las+Vegas\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eHeaven Or Las Vegas\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e. Their major label debut \u003cem\u003eFour Calendar Café\u003c\/em\u003e is some of the most straightforward pop music they ever made - \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.com\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Robin+Guthrie\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRobin Guthrie\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e’s pulled back slightly on his gratuitous reverb, and you can almost sing along to \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.com\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Liz+Fraser\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLiz\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e’s vocals. Unlike the deliberately confounding song titles and pointlessly meandering songwriting of their mid-career records (which I love!), tracks like “Bluebeard” and “Know Who You Are At Every Age” are intuitive and down to earth. The entire side B is, in my opinion, the finest 20 minutes of music the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.com\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Cocteau+Twins\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCocteaus\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e ever cut to tape; starting with the utterly sublime “My Truth” through the new age excellence “Essence,” jangle pop earworm “Summerhead” and the crystalline wall of sound bliss of “Pur” - I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about listening to it! If you’re nodding your head yes, you too have probably been stalking D*sc*gs literally for years trying to get a copy and can finally get some sleep thanks to this official 2024 repress, now on 4AD along with \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.com\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=Cocteau+Twins\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ethe rest of their catalog\u003c\/a\u003e.
